A workshop on “Water Resource Management in Hyderabad “ was organized by MASAA in collaboration with the Salarjung Museum. One of the major efforts of MASAA is to create awareness amongst the public and the Government on the importance of Rainwater Harvesting for improving the groundwater position, particularly in urban areas like Hyderabad. In this endeavor, another workshop was organized jointly with the Institute of Engineers, AP. The major outcome of this
effort was to make a strong appeal to the Government to enforce a law making rainwater harvesting mandatory for obtaining permission to build a house/apartment complex.
Donation to Andhra University
Thanks mainly to the sustained and untiring efforts of Dr. B.B.G.Sarma, the financial position of MASAA is quite sound. Out of these funds, an amount of Ra. 1.13 lakhs was given to the Geology department of Andhra University in 2003 for furnishing the mini conference hall . The hall was subsequently named as “Mahadevan Bhavan” in 2004 at the behest of the MASAA. Later, an amount of Rs. 6,00,000/- lakhs was sent to the Andhra university with an appeal to awards to meritorious students of M.Sc. and M.Sc.(Tech.) course annually.
The association thought it fit to bring out an in-house newsletter highlighting its activities and including some scientific articles and other information and reminiscences of the professor, particularly for those who are not able to attend the regular meetings of the association. To start with, a Birthday Commemoration volume containing scientific articles by Prof. Mahadevan`s students and admirers was brought out on 6th May 2002 as a tribute to the great man. Subsequently, regular issues of Geo-forum (2 issues per year) are being published which is ably and efficiently edited by Dr. M.S. Rao and his dedicated team.
With the dedicated and whole-hearted efforts of the senior members of the association and with the influx of younger and energetic members in its fold, MASAA hopes to continue and achieve the objectives of the association, increase and improve its scope and fulfill the dreams of the `Guru`, Professor Calamur Mahadevan with his blessings from the heavenly abode.
